This the Captain Morse House Store

Here you can find items that we use at the house

I thought it would be a good idea to link to items that we use at the Captain Morse House. This WiFi extender will make any router into the new Mesh Technology. This allows seamless movement from one part of the house to another. At the house we use the older EX7000 model. Buying that one will save you quite a bit. I am not sure you will notice the difference. The least expensive option is the TP-Link. I bought two of the TP-Links and they are easy to set up and work very well. They are just linked to the standard Comcast Xfinity Modem/Router wirelessly. You do not have the option to connect them as a bridge using a hardwire so this gives just a little less range than the other options.

Technology

This is the router we use. I spent a lot of time doing the research. There are some that are faster but this one hits the right sweet spot for speed and price. It is also a “open source” DD-WRT router so has a few more bells and whistles than the typical offering. I have been using DD-WRT for a while. It is stable and reliable and automatically updates itself. We connect it to the Xfinity Comcast Modem/Router and disable DHCP in the Comcast. This allows us to get good service and replacements if we need them in the summer. Yes we could use our own telephony modem, and we have in the past, but there is nothing like getting them to show up mid-summer if you really need them.
